The "Party of New Ideas" goes to the Oldest Trick in the Book

Boooooooooooooor-ing!

That's it, everybody! Pack it up! The Republican Party is out of ideas.

Take a look -- a long, pitying look -- at what the NRCC is reduced to pushing out by way of attacking Democrats:

Debbie Halvorson Voted to Make it Easier to Raise Taxes on the American People:

During the last Congress, Republicans repeatedly used the "motion to recommit" to try and stop the Democrats’ crippling the tax increases. But, Halvorson voted today for the Democrats’ rules package, which will change the only opportunity for Republicans to challenge their tax increases.

Zzzzz.

Seriously, the motion to recommit recast as kryptonite to the Big, Mean Tax Bogeyman? Please. Stop taxes with a motion with no instructions. Strip the taxes out with a motion to report back forthwith. Or just convince America for once that you actually know what the hell you're talking about on issues of taxation and the economy and win a damn vote.

Or, you can try to convince poor ol' Joe Sixpack that only the motion to recommit with instructions to report back promptly can save him from Socialism. It's a winner! All the kids will be sayin' it!

And by the way, no, it's not just Debbie Halvorson (D-IL-11) getting "targeted." The NRCC helpfully informs us that they also spammed other media markets, too:

FYI, a version of the release below went out to the following districts: John Adler (NJ-03); Jason Altmire (PA-04); Michael Arcuri (NY-24); John Barrow (GA-12); John Boccieri (OH-16); Bobby Bright (AL-02); Chris Carney (PA-10); Travis Childers (MS-01); Gerry Connolly (VA-11); Kathy Dahlkemper (PA-03); Joe Donnelly (IN-02); Steve Driehaus (OH-01); Chet Edwards (TX-17); Brad Ellsworth (IN-08); Gabrielle Giffords (AZ-08); Kirsten Gillibrand (NY-20); Alan Grayson (FL-08); Parker Griffith (AL-05); Debbie Halvorson (IL-11); Martin Heinrich (NM-01); Baron Hill (IN-09); Jim Himes (CT-04); Steve Kagen (WI-08); Paul Kanjorski (PA-11); Mary Jo Kilroy (OH-15); Ann Kirkpatrick (AZ-01); Larry Kissell (NC-08); Ron Klein (FL-22); Suzanne Kosmas (FL-24); Frank Kratovil (MD-01); Dan Maffei (NY-25); Betsy Markey (CO-04); Jim Marshall (GA-08); Eric Massa (NY-29); Michael McMahon (NY-13); Jerry McNerney (CA-11); Harry Mitchell (AZ-05); Dennis Moore (KS-03); Glenn Nye (VA-02); Tom Perriello (VA-05); Gary Peters (MI-09); Chellie Pingree (ME-01); Ciro Rodriguez (TX-23); Mark Schauer (MI-07); Kurt Schrader (OR-05); Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01); Zack Space (OH-18); Bart Stupak (MI-01); Harry Teague (NM-02); Dina Titus (NV-03); Tim Walz (MN-01).

Classic (and classy) stuff, too:

Today, [insert thoughtfully targeted Congressperson here] demonstrated a shameless dismissal of her hollow promises to change the way Washington works. The new style of governing that seems to be taking shape in the new Congress will not be welcomed by the voters who were promised the most honest, most open and most ethical Congress in history.

Ooh! Aah! Scary!

This after snuffling and boo-hooing over this excerpt from CQ, too:

"The bipartisan spirit invoked by President-elect Barack Obama will be sorely tested Tuesday when House Democrats open the 111th Congress by seeking to push through rule changes that, among other things, would diminish Republicans’ ability to offer legislative alternatives." (Congressional Quarterly, 1/6/09)

Awwww! Those meanies! The sore test of the bipartisan spirit is all their fault! All their shameless, hollow fault!

(h/t to Blue Hampshire for the pickup on the release.)
